College Scholarships…

Your Attention, PLEASE!

The phrase “college scholarships” is perhaps the most overused, misunderstood expression people use when talking about paying for college.   You should know of many different varieties of college scholarships and sources and where you can get them. The first place to look is my Links page.  I am constantly updating a the website’s list of reputable Scholarship Search Links.

Just typing in “College Scholarships” into an Internet search engine is only going to fill your browser with links to web pages offering college scholarship searches.  The pages offering free searches exist primarily to gather your personal information which they will then sell or trade to so-called affiliate organizations or programs that will barrage you with offers to buy something, or opt-ins to take surveys or some other purchasing offer.  The ones that charge a fee rarely bear fruit. So either way, it’s a complete waste of time.

Besides that, if you do land a private scholarship the money goes to the college — not toward reducing your EFC. Depending on how the college applies the funds, you could get less financial aid than you would have otherwise received! “That’s not fair,” you say?  Well that is how the game is played and if you are not familiar with the process there is even more unfairness where that came from.

Where are the REAL Scholarships to be found?

What I do for a living — very successfully — is to help put students in classrooms in the school of their choice so that they graduate with a degree for the least amount of money possible. And one of the best ways to accomplish this is by finding real scholarships because that’s free money.

Now I am not saying that you can’t find scholarships on your own, or that you shouldn’t participate in a local event that gives a scholarship. What I am saying is that you will be wasting a lot of money and effort if you don’t know what you are doing.

Is There Hope?

In fact, there is plenty of free money out there to be had for college.  It’s just that before you begin to search for college scholarships you need to be equipped with knowledge or you will most certainly be squandering your money and time.

In my e-book, The Ultimate Guide To College Aid, you will find a whole section on scholarships. Here I cover where your best chances are to find and get awarded scholarships.  I have devoted tons of time studying this subject so I know the ins and outs of college funding’s favorite buzzwords.
